Five Lighthouses of Great Britain.....

In 1998, the Royal Mail of Great Britain issued a set of five Lighthouse stamps to celebrate the automation of all lighthouses in Great Britain and to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Eddystone Lighthouse, one of the five . The other four lighthouses are Needles, The Smalls, St. Johns and Bell Rock.  The Royal Mail outdid themselves, not only by creating five visually beautiful stamps depicting each off-shore lighthouse in vivid color, but  in displaying each lighthouse  surrounded by the chart showing the depth of water.  And, wait...there's more!  You see the patterns on the bottom of each stamp - all different?  Those are the LIGHT PATTERNS, unique to each lighthouse.....a solid white light for Eddystone; a red-white-red-white pattern for Bell Rock; three flashes-pause for The Smalls; two quick flashes-pause for St. Johns; and, finally a long flash-short pause for Needles.  We've never seen another set like these. BRILLIANT!

Triple matted in blue & gold, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. It comes with a map showing the location of each light as well as a commentary.
