Elbert "Bert" Rutan's genius combines his creative use of light-weight composite materials with brilliant aerodynamic design. His Voyager became the first non-stop, unrefuled flight around the world in 1986. Shown here is a Commemorative Cover to celebrate his induction into the International Aerospace Hall of Fame on September 24, 1988.
On a commemorative cover, the stamp is immaterial; it's only there because the Post Office will not cancel unless there is current postage. On this cover an airmail Wright Brothers stamp issued in 1978 is used. The postmark is from Dinuba, CA, where Rutan grew up, and the date "freezes" his induction date into the Hall of Fame.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Rutan and his Voyager. The producer of this cover has written a short commentary about Smith and his contribution to the aviation transport industry, which we, in turn, have included.
Matted in blue, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus Commentary Included***
