On May 5, 1969, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the First US Manned Lunar Orbital Flight, Apollo 8, preparing the way for the Moon Landing on July 20th. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Houston, TX) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a drawing of the three astronauts Lovell, Anders, and Borman.
