On February 7, 1980, the USPS issued a set of five stamps celebrating five different Windmills represented by five different states.... a 1720 windmill from Virginia; a 1790 windmill from Rhode Island; a 1793 windmill from Massachusetts; an 1860 windmill from Illinois; and, an 1890 windmill from Texas. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp for the Texas Windmill cancelled from the city of issue (Lubbock, TX) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a typical American Windmill, its slender wooden pedestal and steel-petaled flower rising above the flat, dry plains of Texas. The company that produced this cover has also written a commentary about this American icon.
Double matted in green & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
