On September 30, 1997, the USPS issued five stamps to commemorate Hollywood's Legendary Monsters.....Dracula, Wolf Man, the Phantom of the Opera, the Mummy, and Frankenstein, and the actors that portrayed them...Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, and Lon Chaney, Jr. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all five stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Universal City, CA) on the first day of issue (captioned above.)
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features an appropriate haunted house. The company that produced this cover has also written a short commentary about the Monsters, which we've included.
